Exploring Tasmania - The Complete Travel Itenary

We were planning on a vacation to Tasmania since a long time and finally the long awaited dream came true.

Travel: Booked a return flight from Sydney to Hobart.
Booked the car rental with Thrifty with the car pickup and drop from the Hobart airport.

Travel Itenary
Day 1: Land in Hobart and Travel to Launceston
Took the morning flight from Syney to Hobart. Reached Hobart airport around lunch time.
Picked the car from the airport and started our long drive towards Launceston.
Reached Launceston around late evening.
First day itself gave us a feeling that food is not readily available in Tasmania.

Day 2: Launceston City and Tamar Valley
At first, visited the tourist information centre in Launceston city and picked some maps and places of interest.

Cataract Gorge:
A must visit place, right in the city of Launceston.
Spectacular view of the Gorge from the Suspension Bridge built over it.
Wonderful place to spot the animals like peacocks, wallabies, etc and also birds.
The chairlift was also a wonderful experience. It gives amazing views of the cataract Gorge.

Tamar Valley:
Drive along the Tamar river from Launceston to West Head.
The drive is very scenic with wineyards on either sides.
Stopovers at Tamar Valley Wetlands and Brady's Lookout

This is the place where the Tamar river meets the Pacific Ocean.
Very scenic place with specatcular views.
Light house is truly amazing.

Day 3: Launceston to Cradle Mountain and back
The drive to the cradle mountains from launceston is very scenic and mesmerising.

Deloraine:
A small town with some cafes.
Picked some maps at the Information center.

Rasberry Farm:
Lovely farm with a small cafe serving awsome food with berries. Must try their breakfast
Walk along the rasberry farm to spot some animals and birds

Dove Lake:
This is the most beautiful place of our entire trip of Tasmania. It is like heaven on earth.
Park the car at the parking area and take the shuttle bus to the Dove Lake.
The Dove Lake circuit walk is 6 km long.
This place is truly truly amazing.

Day 4: Launceston to Hobart
Checked out from Launceston and headed towards Hobart. Reached Hobart around lunch time.

Hobart is very different from Launceston. It is a relatively bigger and commercial city.

Mt. Wellington:
This is around half an hour drive from the city and the drive is really beautiful.
A very very beautiful place with amazing views of Hobart.
Should be visited on a clear sky.
We did spot some left over snow here and there.
Rock climbing to the highest point is a fulfilling experience.
The place is very windy but awesome.
There are a couple of paved lookouts with amazing views.

Day 5: Hobart to Port Arthur and back

Port Arthur Historic Site:
This world heritage site is a must visit place if you go to Tassie.
It is one of the best preserevd convict site.
The entry fee is around 37$ per head which is fine considering the size of the place.
It also includes the ferry around the Port Arthur

Around 10 minutes drive from the Port Arthur Historic site.

Walk down a few steps to get a complete glimpse of the caves.

The most amazing arc have seen till date.
Magnificient arc like strucrure standing in the ocean.

The Devils Kitchen:
Walkable from the Tasman Arc.
Amazing work by the waves done on the rocks.

Tasman Blowhole:
Unfortuantely coukd not view the blowhole
A nice place to sit around and enjoy the waters.

Day 6: Hobart City Centre

Day 7: Hobart to Bruny Island and back
The drive to Bruny Island was awesome.
Park the car in the ferry at Kettering and ferry takes you to Bruny Island.

An Amazing Trip to The Central Coast

My sister and bro-in-law were visiting us in Sydney. All of us were very excited and eagerly waiting to welcome them. This is the first time some one from India was visiting us here in Sydney.

We were trying to decide on some plan to give them a wonderful impression about Australia. There were lots of places and beaches around Sydney for day trips. But we wanted something "hatke". Finally we decided to drive to Central Coast and visit Caves Beach and if time permits maybe "The Entrance" too.

It was quite gloomy and cloudy that day, so caves on the caves beach would have provided us the much needed shade in the rains. That was another thought behind selecting that place

We started for our long drive around noon and reached the Caves Beach at lunch time. We parceled some pizzas and had our lunch at the piknik area near the caves beach.

Once the rain subsided, we entered the caves beach. We had been to this place in the summer during Christmas time. But that time it looked quite different. The water level was quite low then and water did not enter the caves at all. Also the bright sunlight and huge crowd gave a different feeling.

This time the water level was really high and the huge waves were entering the caves. The clouds completely covered the sun. The dark weather actually gave a awesome view of the caves beach. Also there were just a couple of people visiting the beach that weekend. So it looked more like our private beach. This visit was much better than our previous visit. Could be also because of the wonderful company of my sis and bil.

It suddenly started raining heavily. So we took shelter in the caves. The floor of the caves was filled with sand. So we made sand castles, dams, wrote our names in the sands, made some towers and did every possible childish thing that we could think of. Due to the cloudy weather, the caves were really dark and gave a real feeling of being in a cave. Just loved that.

After having a nice time there, we were thinking where to go next. As it had started raining by then, we were confused as to where to go. Finally we decided to visit the Norah Head Lighthouse as we had missed that during our last trip to Entrance.

Next destination - Norah Head Lighthouse. It was a around half an hour drive from Caves Beach.

By the time we reached there, the lighthouse had closed, which we had anticipated. The lighthouse looked amazing under the dark clouds. The view of the see from the top was also awesome.

The sea looked really dangerous like a demon pouncing on the rocks.

Suddenly we saw some people down on the rocks. We looked for a way to reach down and found some steps heading down. As we reached down, the view was just amazing.  The lighthouse at the back, the harsh sea waves hitting on the rocks and strong winds trying to pull us away from the sea. I was feeling on top of the world. Wanted to capture this moment in my eyes and my heart :)

We all went near the sea and stood near a cliff like structure. All of a sudden ,we saw a "Blow Hole". Wow that was just so amazing and very much unexpected. The strong sea waves were actually pushing the water through the cliff and the cracks on the rocks, which made this peculiar sound and vibrations and splash. Happiness was just too much to sink in. What a fulfilling day!

We waited there for quite some time. It started drizzling and then we headed back and rushed back to our car. The drive back home was also nice, cherishing all these moments and taking the wonderful memories with us.

Trip to Murdeshwar, Ankola and Gokarn

This trip is a very special one for me as it was a family trip with my mom, dad, sis, bro in law n my daughter....badly missed my hubby though.

I was visiting my parents during my vacation to India and my sis and bil had come to stay with us at my parents place. It was a kind of a family get together.

That time , we planned this trip to our favourite childhood destination that is Ankola and Murdeshwar. Ankola is moms side deity and when we were kids, we used to visit there often. And then after that we would always visit Murdeshwar to enjoy the sea and  the sands. This time, we planned to visit Gokarn in addition to these two places.

We booked a Qualis and left from Goa in the morning. Our first destination was Shantadurga temple at Fatarpa. We usually visited this temple at the time of "Jatra". But this year I would not be there for "Jatra". So we visited now. After our darshan, we headed further.

Our next destination was Ankola. But we missed a turn to enter Ankola and realized it much later and hence had to directly go to Murdeshwar.

Murdeshwar has changed a lot in the past years. It has become more structured and organised. Since it was a working day, there was not much rush. We were all very hungry, so first we decided to have our lunch. We had our lunch at our usual sea side restaurant. We always visited this restaurant when we were kids and it always filled us with excitement and happiness. The same vigor I could see in my daughters eyes now.

After our lunch, we went to see the Shiva temple and the famous Shiva statue. Climbing the steps in the hot sun was little difficult, but manageable. The view and the breeze on the top was also amazing.

Next we decided to go to Gokarn. This was the first time I was visiting Gokarn. When we reached "Mahabaleshwar Temple", it had not opened then and would open in another half an hour. So we decided to walk towards the beach to pass the time. We had some "Garam Chai" at a sea side hotel and then went further to the Gokarn beach.

The beach was not very clean but fine enough to enter the waters. We dipped our legs in the waters for some time. Soon it was time to go back to the temple. This time the temple had open and and there was a big queue waiting outside the temple. Standing in the queue, we got chance to observe the temple structure more closely. The temple is built of granite stone and looks very authentic, probably thousand of years old.

After the auspicious Gokarn visit, we headed towards Ankola. The "Lakshmi Narayan Mahamaya" temple at Ankola had not changed in the past years. It was just the same. When we were kids, we used to come and stay in the "Agarshala" surrounding the temple. The Pujari used to provide delicious food at really subsidized rate. The food served used to be really awesome and as kids we used to crave for that food. Those were the best days of our life. This time we took a quick darshan and then left for home immediately.

The Amazing Port Stephens & Nelson Bay

It was a long time since we had gone on a long drive. Long weekend was approaching. It was Queen Elizabeth's birthday and a public holiday declared in Australia. In winter, its really difficult to go for a overnight trip. So, we decided to to go on a day trip. Trip to the amazing Port Stephens and the Nelson Bay...Yipee!!!

Port Stephens is around 2.5 hours drive from Sydney. Once you get out of the city, catch the Motorway M1 and enjoy the lovely drive till NewCastle. Further take the Nelson Road to reach the Nelson Bay.

We left early morning at around 6.30 AM and picked one of my husbands colleague on the way and reached Nelson Bay at around 9.30 AM. We took a halt for breakfast on the way at McDonalds.

At first we went to the information centre, to pick some maps and decide on the plan.

Port Stephens has 26 golden beaches to choose from. They also have ample of lovely restaurants and accommodation. Its a wonderful place for camping too with lots of camping sites and facilities. But we had to stick to our one day plan and make the best out of it.

At first we just lazied around some beaches. They have wonderful foot paths and cycle tracks along the beaches. In my opinion, this city can be best explored on bycycles. Since we did not have any, we tried exploring a part of it by walking. It was indeed a wonderful experience. Below are some few clicks taken during our walk.

We next headed to Tomaree Lookout. It is a lovely trek and should take around 45 minutes one way. Once you reach the summit, you can enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the lovely islands and amazing beaches. You can also spot the Lighthouse located on one island. The trek has some steep areas and most of it is paved areas. In my opinion, this is a must visit place.

From the Tomaree Lookout, we could watch the Zenith Beach. We could see the blue water splashing on the black rocks and the golden sands. Also saw some people fishing on the beach and getting a good catch.

We headed to the Zenith Beach. It was just as awesome as we had seen from top. We just played around on the waters and in the sands. The people who had come fishing, were still there and they had a very good catch. Looked like they were quite experienced in fishing. Some people had also come for surfing. Surprisingly this beach was not cold or windy. It was kind of sunny and that was a huge relief.

We then sat on the rocks and took some pictures. Just then I spotted some fins moving in the waters. Maybe the dolphins or the whales...not sure. We kept watching and they kept showing their fins now and then. Finally we decided to leave. Just then we saw four dolphins dancing along the waves and all in sync. It was a breathtaking sight and just made our day more fruitful. Just sitting on the beach, we had spotted four dolphins dancing along with the waves. What else could anyone ask for :)

We were waiting there to take a picture of them...But then they never appeared again and then we left for lunch. We went back to the city and toured the whole place. It had past lunch time. So many restaurants were closed. Finally found one and enjoyed our delicious lunch along with some live music.

Next we went to the beach side again. There was an open market. Charvi spotted a play area and started playing there. Play area is the most important thing for her. I guess it made her day. As Sumit went with his friend to explore the market and Charvi was busy playing, I enjoyed the beach and the waves and the sands.

After a strong caffeccino, finally we left around 6 PM. Reached home at 8 PM.

Sydney is full of beaches, But Port Stephens has something different to offer you, there is something different about its beaches. Maybe its the relaxing environment or could be the wonderful landscapes, but it is definitely a must visit place.

We have decided to visit it once again in the summers and this time, we will definitely take a halt there to explore it more and enjoy the sunrise too :)...Waiting to see you again Port Stephens ....

The Great Pacific Drive

New member in our small family...Our new car Ford Kuga. All of us ...full of excitement....That definately calls for a road trip. WOW...I really love these unplanned road trips.

We all had our own wishes. My wish - a visit to a temple, Next wish from Charvi - beach and the final wish from Sumit - a wonderful drive along the coast.

Sumit came up with a wonderful plan, visit to the Sri Venkateshwar Temple in Helenburg, Next  take the Long Pacific Drive till the Sea Cliff  Bridge and finally, relax on the Stanwell Park Beach. Wow, all credits to Sumit for this amazing road trip plan covering all our wishes :)

As it was a sunny day, we left for our trip after lunch. I packed a few sandwiches and some fried rice for our dinner. After all it was more like a piknik.

First halt - "Sri Venkateshwara Temple" in Helensburg. It is around 1 hour drive and the motorway is just amazing.

This temple looked like an Indian Hindu temple. It is really huge and has many small temples within its premises. For all those people who miss Indian food here in Sydney, there is also a canteen which provides Idli , Dosa, Puri . The temple gives peace to the mind as well as the soul. I was really missing my temple visits here in Sydney.

After spending an hour there, we started for the next destination "The Great Pacific Drive". What a lovely drive. I would say , Its one amongst the best drives in the World. The wonderful Sea Cliff Bridge standing between the mountains and the blue oceans and the clear blue sky.

There is a jogging path running parallel to the bridge. We took a short walk halfway through the bridge to capture different angles and views of the bridge and the mountains and the oceans and the cliff.

After the mesmerising coastal walk, our next destination - Stanwell Park Beach.

This is one amongst the best beaches I liked in Sydney. It is a perfect beach for families as it has a very large reserve for picnic, also for barbecue and all of it just very near to the beach. The best part is, it has a small pond just before the beach which captures some warm water. Hence the best place for kids to enjoy the waters. Australian beaches have chilling cold waters even in really hot sunny days. So, this pond was more like a blessing.

Charvi played some time in the waters, then we took a stroll on the beach. It has really amazing scenic views along the coast. It reminded me of many Bollywood movies with beach side shooting. In fact, it is a wonderful place for that. We had early dinner and then finally left back for Sydney with all these wonderful memories in our heart.
